Basic Surgical Instrument Resources Online
Unless you use a lot of surgical instruments often, it can be difficult memorizing/learning the myriad instruments common in surgeries. There are lots of surgical instrument catalogs online, but they’re not designed for educational uses and can have 100’s of variations. So here are a few sites online that clarify the more common ones, each with images that at least get the job done.
- Surgical Instruments 101: An Introduction to KMedic Certified Instruments by Helmut Kapczynsk : a pdf, written in 1997 but still lists many common ones used today
- King’s College PA Program Basic list: simple and short
- Surgical Instruments: relatively thorough Scribd document
- Spartan Community College Library’s Basic Surgical Instruments: has good information on how each tool is used
- Surgical Instrument Quiz: free quiz online- the site also sells a guidebook.
